Men in Mission
The Men in Mission of St. John Lutheran church consisting of The Men's Brotherhood, The Men's Choir and Men's Breakfast Group, launched its new Scholarship program in March. This program is open to all graduating high school seniors that are members of St. John Lutheran Church, Prairie Hill. Pastor David has sent a letter notifying this year's candidates that they qualify for this award and has instructed each on the procedure to follow to obtain the scholarship. After the application is returned, Pastor David will forward the candidates' names that qualify, to the Men in Mission Scholarship approval committee. Awards will be made Sunday June 15. This day is celebrated as Father's day and the service will be conducted by The Men in Mission. The St. John Family is proud to become a helping hand in the future of our youth. Several fund raisers by The Men in Mission were held during the past year to fund these scholarships. The Easter breakfast is a good example of fund raisers being held to fund the 2009 scholarship fund. Donations were accepted at meal time and matching funds will be requested from Thrivent Fund for Lutherans. One hundred and thirty attended the breakfast prepared by the Men in Mission of St. John Lutheran church.
The Men in Mission will continue the scholarship fund raising though future years. If you are an adult male you are invited and needed to attend one of these Men in Mission Groups.
The meeting dates are:
The Men's Breakfast: This Group meets every third Saturday at 7:30 in the parish house. A full breakfast is featured. The men start gathering around 7:00am to enjoy fellowship and a cup of coffee. During the meal, any church news items or future plans of the Men in Mission are discussed. The breakfast concludes shortly after 8:30.
The Men's Brotherhood: This group of men meets the first Sunday of each month at 7:30 in the annex. The meeting usually lasts about one and one half hours. Pastor David leads a Discussion on a subject of interest to the men. The subject to discuss is generally decided on at a prior meeting. Then after a short business meeting refreshments are served.
The Men's Choir: The Men's Choir has practice sessions on Wednesday nights starting at 7:30. Usually we perform at the late service on the fourth Sunday. This group is open to all men of St. John Lutheran Church that love to sing (you don't need to be able to read music) and be part of a group that enhances the worship service.

The Men's Breakfast - The Men's Breakfast meets every third Saturday in the St. John Parish House. Gathering at 7:00 a.m. and eating breakfast at 7:30. The majority of the time is spent on fellowship and topics of interest concerning St. John Church. The breakfast is prepared on site by some of the best cooks in Washington county.

The Men's Choir - The Men's Choir of St. John Lutheran Church sings the fourth Sunday at the 10:05 service. Practice is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday except the Wednesday evening following the Sunday the choir sings.
NEW MEN'S CHOIR BEGINS IN SEPT 2008 -The Men's Choir is open to all men of St. John Lutheran Church that love to sing (you don't need to be able to read music) and be part of a group that enhances the worship service.

The first St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill Men in Mission Scholarships were presented to Jenna Curtis, Dalton Feldmann, Leigh Herrmann and Stacy Wegner on Sunday, June 15th, 2008.
