Holy Communion Service
WELCOME VISITORS! We rejoice you have chosen to worship with us, and hope that you feel welcome to call Prairie Hill your home. Everything you need to follow the service is printed in your bulletin, and the hymns are found in the red books in the pew.
A cry room and a bathroom are located near the entrance to the church (the back of the sanctuary). If you have any questions about our church family, please feel free to ask one of the ushers, the person next to you in the pew, or talk to Pastor David after the service.
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION is distributed by bread and wine in individual glasses or in a common cup. Individual glasses of white grape juice are also available for those who are unable to consume wine.
All baptized Christians are invited to join us at the table for the Sacrament of Holy Communion, in which we confess that we receive the Body and Blood of our Lord in, with, and under the elements of bread and wine.
If you prefer to receive a blessing instead of communion, simply come forward and cross your arms over your chest so that Pastor David will know to bless you.
Enjoy God’s Good Gifts!

~~~GATHERING AROUND THE WORD~~~
PRELUDE
*CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS
p. 94
Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God,
who forgives all our sin, and whose mercy endures forever.
Amen.
God of all mercy and consolation …
… Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
A time of silence allows us to prepare our hearts and minds for confession.
Gracious God,
have mercy on us.
We confess that we have turned from you
and given ourselves into the power of sin.
We are truly sorry and humbly repent.
In your compassion forgive us our sins,
known and unknown,
things we have done and things we have failed to do.
Turn us again to you,
and uphold us by your Spirit,
so that we may live and serve you in newness of life
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
God who is rich in mercy…
… that Christ may live in our hearts by faith.
Amen.
and bring all the world to share in the treasures
that come through your Son,
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
~~~PROCLAIMING THE WORD~~~
CHILDRENS MESSAGE
Pastor David
FIRST READING
Genesis 1:26-30
26Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”
27So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.
28God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” 29God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Psalm 112
Hallelujah! Happy are they who fear the Lord
and have great delight in God's commandments!
2Their descendants will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3Wealth and riches will be in their house,
and their righteousness will last forever.
4Light shines in the darkness for the upright;
the righteous are merciful and full of compassion.
5It is good for them to be generous in lending
and to manage their affairs with justice.
6For they will never be shaken;
the righteous will be kept in everlasting remembrance.
7They will not be afraid of any evil rumors;
their heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8Their heart is established and will not shrink,
until they see their desire upon their enemies.
9They have given freely to the poor, and their righteousness stands fast forever;
they will hold up their head with honor.
10The wicked will see it and be angry;
they will gnash their teeth and pine away;
the desires of the wicked will perish.
*GOSPEL
Mark 12:38-44
Alleluia! Lord to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia!
The Holy Gospel according to Mark, the twelfth chapter.
Glory to you, O Lord.
38As Jesus taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! 40They devour widows' houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
41He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, O Christ!

HYMN of the DAY
This is My Father’s World
Ladies Choir
*Apostles CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Prayers of Intercession
Gathered with all the saints by the river of life, let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in any need.

Each petition of the prayers ends with the following response:

We pray in hope,
make all things new.
.
All blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be yours, O God, through Christ the crucified and risen one.
Amen.

Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

*DIALOGUE
p. 152
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy …
… we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
*SANCTUS
p. 153
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, Lord God of pow’r and might
heav’n and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
*EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Amen!
*THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank You!! Thank you to the St. John Women of the ELCA for leading today’s worship, decorating the church for Thanksgiving,and for sharing the gift of music with us. Our congregation is blessed to have so many talent and faithful women in our family of faith.
Ministry of the Women of the ELCA
The Women of the ELCA are a vital part of the ministry and mission of St. John Lutheran Church. Every month, women from our congregation gather for fellowship and to learn more about God’s Word and about God’s will for our lives. WELCA hosts spring and fall events for fellowship and learning for our congregation and for the wider community. They serve our neighbors by planning and hosting our two annual blood drives, food and necessities drives, and providing quilts and supplies for Lutheran World Relief. In addition, the Women of St. John help to keep our church beautiful, providing lilies for Easter, poinsettias for Christmas, Thanksgiving decorations, and other decorations throughout the year to keep our worship space beautiful. The St. John WELCA participates in the wider church, working with the ministries of the Gulf Coast Synod WELCA, and our local WELCA cluster.
Monthly WELCA Groups:
Rachel Circle: Meets the first Tuesday night
Naomi Circle: Meets the first Thursday morning
Rebecca Circle: Meets the second Tuesday night
Deborah Circle: Meets the second Sunday morning
Ladies Aid: Meets the second Thursday afternoon
St. John Quilters: Meets the third Tuesday morning
If you are not a part of the St. John Women of the ELCA, now is the perfect time to discover how God is working through this ministry! Talk to any of the women involved in today’s service or to Pastor David for more information.

Donations are being accepted for our Sunday School Christmas Bags, which will be distributed to all children at Christmas worship.Donations may be placed in the designated offering plate at the back of the church or you can contact the church office.

Given the busy nature of this holiday season, the Gathering worship will not be meeting for the remainder of the year, starting with November 29. We will be taking a break for the seasons of Advent and Christmas, and discussing what this service might look like in the new year.

Happy New Year
November 29th is a special day on the calendar of the church. It marks the first Sunday of Advent - and the beginning of a new church year! Advent is a wonderful time of the year. In the midst of the holiday rush, Advent gives the opportunity to slow down and prepare for the coming of Christ.
Please make this New Year’s celebration a part of your holiday plans, and join us for Advent worship.
